With facilities in Casal de St. André in Povoa de Santo Adrião, very close to the heart of Lisbon, Santo André Lusitanos was founded in 2002 by António Borba Monteiro and his disciples. It is a non-profit Equestrian Association, the objective of which is to promote, both on a domestic and international level, the preservation, dissemination and evolution of the Lusitano Horse and the academic Portuguese-rooted art of riding, extensively developed in this location over the last 50 years by renowned horsemen and masters.
Nuno Oliveira, Professor Celestino da Costa, D. Diogo de Bragança, René Bacharach, João Trigueiros de Aragão, Michel Henriquet, Filipe Graciosa, Francisco Cancela de Abreu, António Borba Monteiro and the host, Dr. Guilherme Borba.
The dimension and enthusiasm for this Academic Art of Horsemanship led to the creation of two of the four Equestrian Art Schools in Europe under the technical guidance of Mestre Guilherme Borba. The Portuguese School of Equestrian Art and the Andalusian School of Equestrian Art of Spain, together with their analogous the Spanish Riding School of Vienna and Cadre Noir de Saumur in France jointly presented, for the first time in 2010, the famous Four Equestrian Art Schools Gala in Paris, an event which clearly shows the efforts to preserve this world heritage.
